Ben — the man behind the seasoning.
There is something that happens when you cook a really good piece of meat and it comes off the grill tasting mostly like salt. You know the flavor was there. You could almost taste it. But somewhere between the seasoning and the plate, the meat got lost.
It happens more than people realize, and most of the time the seasoning is the reason why.
A lot of the popular brands you'll find at the grocery store are built heavily around salt. It's not a criticism — salt is inexpensive, it preserves shelf life, and people are used to the taste of it. But some of the most well-known seasoning salts on the market run anywhere from 75 to 80 percent salt by composition. When you're shaking that onto a beautiful ribeye or a pork tenderloin you've been looking forward to all week, most of what's landing on that meat is sodium. The meat never really gets a chance to speak for itself.
My dad thought a lot about this. He raised cattle in Nebraska for most of his life, and he was the kind of person who paid attention to the details that most people overlook. He spent years developing a seasoning that would work with the meat instead of over it. Not to change the flavor. Just to bring it out a little more.
That idea is still at the center of everything we make.
We wanted to be straightforward about what's actually in our blends, so here are the salt percentages for each one:
Original Blend — 51.90% salt
Garlic Blend — 52.72% salt
Cajun Blend — 46.88% salt
Each blend sits right around 50 percent salt. Compared to the big seasoning salts, that's a meaningful difference. And we don't add sugar to any of them either, which puts us a little further outside the norm for what's typically on the shelf.
We share these numbers because we think people who are mindful about what they eat deserve to have that information without having to dig for it. Whether your doctor has asked you to keep an eye on sodium, or you've just noticed that most seasonings taste more like salt than anything else, we think you'll find these blends work a little differently.
The goal has always been simple. Let the meat taste like the meat — just a better version of it.
Thank you, Terri
